WUCHANG sequel announced by 505 Games and original creator Xia Siyuan’s Indolphinity

505 Games has revealed a new development on the WUCHANG series, which was thought to be dead after the closure of Leenzee, the studio that made it.

The publisher has entered a new development agreement with Chengdu Recursive Dolphin Technology studio, also known as Indolphinity. Founded by Xia Siyuan, the original creator of WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers, this studio will develop the sequel while 505 Games handles funding and global publishing.

As shared by 505 Games, the sequel is currently in its preparation phase, with no title, release date, or game details expected anytime soon. All we know is that it’s the next game in the WUCHANG series, and not necessarily a sequel, prequel, or even connected to the original.

WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers launched on July 24, 2025, and had decent scores, sales, and player count, but unfortunately, Leenzee’s WUCHANG team was shuttered earlier this year after Xia left and the remaining team reportedly rejected a move back into outsourcing work. KR Asia wrote that shareholders wanted the team shifted to outsourcing, the team refused, and the studio was disbanded.

The game has since reached five million players across PC and consoles. Digital Bros, the parent company of 505 Games, acquired the WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers IP in April 2026. The company now owns the IP and reached out to the creator of the original game to work on the new project that it now holds the rights to.

The first game also had its fair share of controversy, as Patch 1.5 changed parts of WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers so several historically significant bosses and NPCs could no longer be killed, instead becoming exhausted after combat. The update also changed dialogue and made parts of Chapter 4 easier by turning many enemies non-hostile.

These changes created a severe backlash because they significantly altered the game after the release. Many believed they were made after harsh criticism by the Chinese gaming community regarding the game’s handling of the Ming and Qing Dynasty history, while others objected to the retcon itself and said it damaged the plot, characters, and overall tone. Leenzee did not give a detailed explanation for the narrative overhaul at the time.

WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers is available on PC, PlayStation 5, and XBOX Series X|S. The game is also free with Game Pass Ultimate, and was given away on PlayStation Plus in May.
