WTC rankings: India drop below Bangladesh after defeat against England

NEW DELHI: Following their shocking 28-run loss to England in the opening Test in Hyderabad, India has fallen to fifth place in the World Test Championship rankings, behind Bangladesh.

Following their draw in the two-Test series against South Africa, India held the lead for a short while until Australia overtook them after their win against Pakistan. In terms of cumulative percentage points, Rohit Sharma's team has suffered, dropping from 54.16 following the South Africa series to 43.33 at present.

In the first Test match in Hyderabad on Sunday, India were all out for 202 after needing 231 to win in the fourth innings. Tom Hartley (7/62) of England caused a collapse by twirling a web around the home team batsmen.

In the most recent WTC rankings, Australia lead with 55 percentage points, and Rohit Sharma's team dropped to fifth place as a result of their unusual home loss. India's current net percentage is 43.33 percentage points.

Australia remained at the top of the WTC standings despite their stunning eight-run loss to the West Indies in Brisbane on Sunday.

South Africa, New Zealand and Bangladesh -- all with 50 percentage points -- are at second, third and fourth spots.

Below India are Pakistan, West Indies, England and Sri Lanka.

In the WTC 2023-2025 cycle, teams are fetching 12 points for a win, 4 for a draw and 6 for a tie.
