The World Surf League has confirmed the season-opening women's event will conclude at Pipeline, the first time a women's tour event has been held at the iconic Hawaiian venue.
The Maui Pro has been suspended since a man was killed following a shark attack near their Honolua Bay event location last Wednesday (AEDT), leaving the title bids of Australian semi-finalists Sally Fitzgibbons and Tyler Wright on hold.
The Australian duo will now get the chance to secure a first-up tour win for the 2021 championship at Pipeline, with organisers confirming the change of venue on Friday.
"This marks the first time a women's CT competition will ever be held at the venue," WSL chief executive Erik Logan said.
"We look forward to being a part of bringing greater gender equity to surfing in Hawaii."
Competition has been placed on standby with the men's Pipe Masters being run at the venue instead but may yet resume on Friday depending on conditions.
When the women's event does resume it'll start with the last of the quarter-finals between America's Sage Erickson and Brazil's Tatiana Weston-Webb.
Wright and Fitzgibbons will then face off in the first semi-final before hometown favourite Carissa Moore takes on the winner of the quarter-final between Erickson and Weston-Webb for the other final spot.
