Wrong-way camper van sparks A9 panic in Highland Perthshire

Drivers were forced to take evasive action at the weekend when a camper van ended up on the wrong side of the A9 dual carriageway.

Alan McConachie (25) from Elgin spotted the van around 5.50pm on Sunday driving at full speed along the fast-moving road near Ballinluig.

In Alan’s footage oncoming cars can be seen hurtling towards the van at 70mph with motorists on both sides desperate to draw the campervan driver’s attention.

Luckily, that particular stretch of the A9 runs straight, allowing drivers plenty of time to react.

But Alan, of Anarchy Automotive fears things could have ended badly had the mistake occurred elsewhere on the road.

He told the PA’s sister title the Daily Record: “I was behind him for miles. Just before the road becomes a dual carriageway he panicked and went across to the other side.

“There were people flashing him. Drivers could see what was happening and moved lanes early.

“Just as my video ends you can see him on the brakes.”
