'Written in the stars' - Liverpool fans send Steven Gerrard message after Aston Villa FA Cup draw

It is only a matter of days before Steven Gerrard is back at Anfield, appearing in the opposition dugout.

In what promises to be an odd experience for all concerned, the former Liverpool legend has maintained his focus is firmly on securing three points for Aston Villa.

Gerrard has enjoyed a strong start to his tenure at the Premier League club, winning two out of his first three games to restore the feel-good factor at Villa Park.

Having already faced his former Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers and is set to take on Jurgen Klopp, another intriguing fixture awaits the 41-year-old in the New Year.

Monday's FA Cup third-round draw saw Villa drawn away to Manchester United, a ground at which Gerrard conjured up some memorable moments during his days as a Liverpool player.

The iconic midfielder scored five times at the home of the Red Devils as a player and will now be hoping to frustrate the United faithful once again - but this time as a manager.

Liverpool were handed a home tie against Shrewsbury Town in the FA Cup draw, though many Reds supporters were more excited by the prospect of Gerrard causing an upset at Old Trafford.

United recently won their first game in charge under interim manager Ralf Rangnick, who is attempting to steady the ship after a disastrous few weeks for the club.
