Pritish Nandy, the poet, author, former editor and TV interviewer, is outraged by the Indian parliament's desire to introduce new media laws. He writes in The Times of India: "Every day new controls are being put in place to gag the media. Ostensibly these are licensing issues, regulatory issues. But the truth is: more and more control over media is being exercised by the State." In his forthright article championing freedom of speech, Nandy adds: "What they [the government] want to control is actually news. Everything else is a cover." (Via timesofindia.com )
