Firefighters and emergency personnel are responding to reports of an active shooter at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base near Dayton in Ohio.
Local media outlets reported that an alert was sent to personnel at the base that read: “Emergency responders are enroute. All WPAFB Gates are Closed. All personnel take cover. Limit all communication to emergency use only.”
The Wright-Patterson Air Force Base said that base security forces and firefighters were responding to the reports and that other base personnel had been advised to shelter where they are until an investigation is completed.
The base said that the incident involved one of the buildings of the base hospital. The military medical centre has more than 4,000 annual admissions annually, according to its license.
Emergency dispatch reports indicated the Ohio State Highway Patrol were shutting down surrounding roads.
Nearby Wright State University said the incident poses no threat to its campus.
