Wrexham star Ben Foster reveals five-a-side team of best footballing YouTubers

Wrexham goalkeeper Ben Foster has revealed the footballing YouTubers that would make his five-a-side team.

The former Manchester United and England goalkeeper signed off last season by being part of Wrexham’s memorable promotion-winning campaign in the National League. Foster, 40, has enjoyed a long and successful career that has seen him make 390 appearances in the Premier League.

However, in recent years, Foster has become a successful YouTuber, with his Cycling Gk channel currently at 1.44m subscribers. His journey as a content creator has seen Foster cross paths with plenty of other prominent names on the platform and he has picked out the five YouTubers that he would name on his team sheet.

The first person that Foster picked was Tobi Brown (TBJZL), having collaborated with him on several videos. Speaking on The Fellas Podcast, Foster gave his verdict on TBJZL’s footballing ability: “I’m sure his ankles will break at any given moment. He has got the laziest ankles ever, it’s like he’s got no ligaments left in them, they’re floppy!” he joked.

“He can do that outside of the foot thing like no one I’ve ever seen because he can bend his ankle around. It’s weird but I’d have him just for his pure spirit.”

Next up was ChrisMD, who Foster described as the “GOAT of football videos” and prides himself on his ability to take free-kicks. “Chris will be in there for sure,” Foster said. “Set pieces, you know what you’re gonna get from the big boy.”

Foster took a dig at podcast host Calfreezy’s skills as he mixed up his name with fellow YouTuber Miniminter, who became the third name on the goalkeeper’s team sheet: “Definitely put Simon (Miniminter) in there. He’s sneaky alright him, you know.”

Theo Baker also made the team, having cycled with the former United player to every Championship ground in London, back in 2021. However, Foster couldn’t resist telling a story from that day.

“I’ve not done a football video with Theo but I’ve seen him play through other bits and bobs. We did a cycling video and he was so hungry to show me his video where he ran past Jamie Carragher,” laughed Foster.

Opting against putting himself in goal, Foster made the final decision to put BigJohnGK in between the sticks: “He’s so committed to being a goalie and the craft of being a goalkeeper,” Foster said. “Every time we’ve had a video, John just turns up and brings so much energy and enthusiasm.”
