Wrexham's Rob McElhenney joins Ryan Reynolds in classy message to Notts County

Wrexham co-owner Rob McElheney has joined Ryan Reynolds in congratulating National League rivals Notts County on booking their place in the upcoming play-off final at Wembley.

The Magpies, who were pipped to the one automatic promotion place by the the Dragons this season, secured a thrilling 3-2 win over Boreham Wood in the play-off semi-finals on Sunday having previously been 2-0 down.

A thrilling comeback saw County take the contest to extra-time after Aden Baldwin's incredible 97th-minute equaliser and, after a tense half an hour, Jodi Jones popped up to net the winner with what was effectively the last kick of the game.

It was another extraordinary moment in what's been a gripping season in the fifth tier.

A video of BBC Radio Nottingham commentators Charlie Slater and Mark Stallard going ballistic at County's dramatic winner has since gone viral on social media, with both men leaping to their feet and celebrating in ecstasy.

Slater does his best to maintain some level of professionalism by attempting to explain what he's just witnessed to listeners, but the emotions of the occasion were clearly too much.

McElhenney was one of many to be delighted by the clip, simply tweeting: "I love football. Congrats @Official_NCFC."

His message comes after Reynolds retweeted the video of the winner on his own Twitter account, seemingly backing up his previous good wishes to Wrexham's title rivals, whose astonishing total of 107 points was still four short of the champions.

Just moments after Wrexham booked their spot in League Two, Reynolds said: "I’m not sure I can actually process what happened tonight.

"I’m a little speechless. One thing that has been running through my head is people who asked ‘Why Wrexham?’. This is why. What is happening now is why Wrexham.

“Huge credit to Boreham Wood tonight. Also, this entire story, the reason we’re sitting on the edge of our seats right now is because Notts County is so damn good as well. They deserve to go up.

“It’s something Rob and I feel quite strongly about. We are rooting for Notts County. We want to see them go up to League Two and face them next year. They’re incredible.”

County will now face Chesterfield in the final at Wembley on May 13.
