Wrexham coach provides update on former Manchester United goalkeeper Ben Foster's future

Wrexham first team coach and reserve team manager David Jones admits Ben Foster's future at the club remains up in the air following the Red Dragons' promotion to the Football League.

Ex-Manchester United goalkeeper Foster signed for the National League champions in March following an injury to then first choice Rob Lainton. The 40-year-old had previously credited a loan spell at the Racecourse Ground in 2005 for helping him seal a move to Old Trafford.

Foster went on to play eight times on his return to North Wales and would make headlines for saving Cedwyn Scott's penalty in a title deciding 3-2 victory over Notts County. The veteran keeper's contract expired at the end of the campaign but co-owner Ryan Reynolds has said he wants him to remain at the club.

In an interview with MEN Sport, Jones said both parties are still in talks on what comes next for Foster.

"We knew what we were bringing in with Ben towards the end of the season," Jones said. "He's played at the highest level. We know he brings personality to the dressing room and on the pitch I think he displayed that in his performances and came up with big moments.

"His impact was big but so was Rob Lainton's and Mark Howard's, who played the majority of the games this season. Everybody played their part in the goalkeeping position.

"With Ben, I don't know what he plans to do next year and what the plans for the club are but he's a top goalkeeper still at his age. It is for the club and Ben to decide what the situation is there but we want the strongest squad and despite being here for a short time, Ben was a massive part of that."

Jones was speaking to the Manchester Evening News ahead of next week's The Soccer Tournament. UK fans can watch the Wrexham Red Dragons on Goal.com's YouTube Channel between June 1 and June 4.
