Wrestling star Grado has ringside view as Kilwinning Rangers and Auchinleck Talbot lock horns

Wrestling icon Grado had a ringside view as Junior football heavyweights Kilwinning Rangers and Auchinleck Talbot squared up on league duty last night.

The Stevenston telly star was in the crowd for the goalless draw - a result that leaves both sides with four points after two West Premiership matches.

It wasn't quite the no-holds-barred bout Grado has become accustomed to. But there were plenty of talking points for the Scots Squad patter merchant to chew over.

It was a historic occasion for Kilwinning, this being the first league fixture to be played at their new Buffs Park home.

And they almost got off to a dream start after only four minutes when Carlo Monti's corner kick fell at the feet of Chris McGowan, but from six yards the young defender couldn't keep his shot down.

Talbot then missed a guilt edge chance of their own in seven minutes when Kieran Healy blazed over Gareth Armstrong's cut back from close range.

Kilwinning keeper Adam Strain then came to the hosts rescue when he made an excellent block on the edge of his penalty area to deny Jamie Glasgow.

At the other end, Neil McPherson made a timely tackle on Monti just as the forward was poised to pull the trigger in the six yard box.

Other than that, the first half was littered with speculative efforts with both defences tough to break down.

Talbot started the second half on top, forcing an early corner which caused panic in the Buffs box before the ball was eventually hoofed clear.

Buffs weathered the initial storm and started to look dangerous themselves. Darren Frye threaded a pass through for Ben Lewis but it just a fraction over-hit and the ball rolled safely through to Bot keeper Andy Leishman.

Talbot's biggest threat came from set-pieces and from a corner in 60 minutes, Gordon Pope sent a header crashing off the crossbar.

Buffs' best chance of the half fell to Monti after good set-up play from Ryan Willson but from 12 yards he failed to muster enough power in a side-footed effort to trouble Leishman.

The home side kept the pressure on with a succession of corner kicks but there was a distinct lack of a killer touch.

With six minutes remaining, sub Alex McWatters walked for two quickfire bookings, but Buffs withstood a late Talbot charge to hang on for a point, which on the balance of play was probably a fair result.
