Wrestling legend Rob Van Dam heaps praise on Becky Lynch ahead of historic Wrestlemania main event

Professional wrestling legend Rob Van Dam has praised Ireland's Becky Lynch on her involvement in this Sunday's historic WrestleMania main event.

Dublin's Lynch will face off with UFC hall-of-famer Ronda Rousey and SmackDown Women's Champion Charlotte Flair in the first ever female main event on the 'grandest stage of them all'.

And speaking ahead of his return to Impact Wrestling at the company's 'United We Stand' pay-per-view on Fite TV tonight, RVD told Irish Mirror: "It's very awesome that the women are in the position they are in right now.

"I think Becky Lynch is a great representative of what a female wrestler can be, because everything about her is great.

"She looks great, she talks great, her moves are great, her execution and everything [is top level]... She's 'The Man'."

WWE announce first ever female WrestleMania main event to feature Irish woman Becky Lynch and UFC legend Ronda Rousey

And on the subject of women's wrestling, Van Dam said that it has come on leaps and bounds in recent years.

"It's not just her," he said. "The women in general have really stepped up, when I was in WWE in 2001 and 2002, you can't even compare the style of what they were doing then and what they're doing right now.

"These girls are fighters, the way they move in the ring is so natural, in a way only men were able to do back in the day.

"I think this is a true test, having a women's match main event WrestleMania, that's really putting it out there and saying 'let's see how this goes?'

"If something goes wrong, the nay-sayers will says 'that's what you get, you shouldn't have put them on there', but I don't think anything is going to go wrong."

Van Dam will team with old friend Sabu tonight in his Impact Wrestling return when they face the Lucha Bros in New Jersey.

Impact Wrestling's 'United We Stand' pay-per-view is a dream match-filled event in Rahway, New Jersey, starting at 4 AM Irish time tonight. Irish fans can order the event for $20 (approx €18) on Fite TV
