WWE star John Cena has been absent from in-ring competition since January, but most fans expected him to play some part in WrestleMania 35 on Sunday at MetLife Stadium – potentially as a surprise opponent for Kurt Angle. No one predicted what WWE had in store for Cena’s grand return.
Cena reignited his old feud with Elias by interrupting a live performance – as the Dr. of Thuganomics.
If you weren’t watching WWE in the early 2000s, you may not remember that Cena initially rose to prominence playing the role of a rapper. Cena proclaimed himself the Dr. of Thuganomics, and cut his promos as if he was taking part in a rap battle.
It would be surprising if the return of Thuganomics was more than a one-off for WrestleMania, but fans were overjoyed.
