They ruled the web in year when the world went more virtual than ever before.
The 2021 Webby Award nominations, announced Tuesday, celebrate the best online creators from all walks of life.
The always random list of nominees include “Ratatouille: The TikTok Musical” and “Father of the Bride Part 3ish” for television and film social video; Jennifer Garner, Sir David Attenborough and Gordon Ramsey for best celebrity/fan; and Trevor Noah’s “The Daily Social Distancing Show” for best host or personality on virtual and remote features.
Among the nominees for best events and livestreams were Disney’s “Hamilton” watch party on Twitter and WrestleMania 36, while the Rockettes’ “All That Jazz” Bob Fosse tribute and the #SavageChallenge earned nominations for best performance and dance.
Nominated podcasts include “Dr. Death: Season 2" by Wondery, “Under the Skin with Russell Brand” by Luminary, “Wind of Change” by Spotify Studios, “Land of the Giants: The Netflix Effect” by Vox Media, “Our America with Julian Castro” by Lemonada Media, “Office Ladies” by Earworlf and “America Dissected: Coronavirus” by Crooked Media.
“Since its inception in 1997, the Webby Awards has celebrated inspiring Internet talent and visionary innovation,” Claire Graves, executive director of the Webby Awards, said in a statement.
“The 25th Annual Webby nominees represent far more than innovation. Despite so much adversity this year, the creators behind our nominated work have found new and exciting ways to use their platforms and creativity to help the world stay connected.”
The International Academy of Digital Arts & Sciences will vote on all winners except for The Webby People’s Voice Award, a fan vote open until May 6.
“The Good Place” star Jameela Jamil will host the Webby Awards on May 18.
