Receiver Will Fuller is pleased to stay with the Houston Texans, and did not enjoy the early part of last week one bit.
The former 2016 first-round pick from Notre Dame was on the trade block as teams called the Texans seeing what it would take to acquire Fuller. The 6-0, 184-pound wideout.
“To be honest, it really sucked being shopped around like that,” Fuller said Sunday after the Texans’ 27-25 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars. “Giving this organization my all and coming to work every day, I’m a very unselfish player and do everything they asked. To be shopped around, I did feel a certain type of way.”
The Texans kept Fuller, and he rewarded their faith with five catches for 100 yards and a touchdown of 77 yards in Houston’s second win of the season. Fuller is especially happy to stay with his original draft team because of the chemistry he has developed with quarterback Deshaun Watson.
“I think we’re going on four years now so it’s the longest I have ever played with a quarterback in my football life,” Fuller said. “I think just being that chemistry with all the practices we had have together. We’ve had four training camps together and a bunch of games. Just the chemistry and I think it’s going to continue to get better.”
The Texans will need the best they can get from Watson and Fuller’s chemistry as they seek to repair their 2-6 record. Fuller has caught 36 passes, second only to Brandin Cooks’ 37, for a team-high 590 yards and six touchdowns. If the Texans were to excise this production from their offense, it would be difficult for them to stay in the playoff hunt, which for now, still has Houston barely even on the trail.
With Fuller content and still with the Texans, the passing game has its key pieces to stay potent.
