WR Nelson Agholor named a ‘must-sign’ player this offseason for Raiders

The Raiders made a few questionable decisions this offseason, but the signing of Nelson Agholor is going to go down as the team’s best move. Despite seeing just 72 targets in 11 games this season, Agholor has already totaled 684 yards and seven touchdowns, the second-most on the team.

With Henry Ruggs and Bryan Edwards III both battling injuries this season, Agholor has emerged as Derek Carr’s favorite weapon. Unfortunately, Agholor’s contract is up at the end of the year and his price tag has risen dramatically since free agency last offseason.

In a recent article by Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report, he named one player that each team must re-sign this offseason. For the Raiders, that was none other than Agholor. Here is a snippet of his thoughts on why Mike Mayock and company must bring him back this offseason:

“When targeting Agholor this season, Las Vegas quarterbacks have a passer rating of 111.1. While he was widely considered an afterthought during free agency, the Philadelphia Eagles castoff has emerged as a vital piece of the Raiders’ passing attack. Las Vegas gambled on him, and it’s paying off. It’s time for the franchise to lock up the 27-year-old.”

With how well the offense has functioned with Agholor on the outside, the Raiders would be wise to bring him back at the right price. But what is the right price? That remains to be seen, but the Raiders are expected to get some cap relief this offseason if/when they release Tyrell Williams. In theory, the Raiders could use Williams’ cap space to sign Agholor.

One way or another, expect Agholor to be back with the Silver and Black in 2021.
