WR Marqise Lee, RB Ryquell Armstead to join Cam Robinson on pup list

Jacksonville Jaguars left tackle Cam Robinson apparently won’t be the only player starting training camp on the team’s physically unable to perform list. On Monday afternoon, the team also announced that both receiver Marqise Lee and rookie running back Ryquell Armstead will be joining him, too.

Like Robinson, fans already knew Lee wouldn’t be able to take the practice field to open training camp as Doug Marrone confirmed it back in June. Of course, his status for the start of camp comes as a result of his rehab process as he recovers from the extensive knee injury he sustained Week 3 of the preseason against the Atlanta Falcons.

Armstead, on the other hand, is a surprise. For those who can recall, the 2019 fifth-round selection sustained what Marrone called a “slight hamstring injury” back in early June, but most suspected he’d be able to return for training camp. That said, the team may be just taking precaution with the rookie as there isn’t a reason to rush him back, but the injury may be one that was a little more severe than the staff initially thought.

When looking at the depth chart, the Jags are in good shape as far as Lee’s injury goes as they have Dede Westbrook, DJ Chark, Chris Conley and Keelan Cole coming off solid organized team and minicamp showings. The depth at tailback is solid too as the Jags will have Benny Cunningham, Alfred Blue and Thomas Rawls all healthy behind Leonard Fournette. Still, the sooner Armstead can get on the field the better as their could be an opportunity to crack the lineup as a top-3 running back.

Of course, with all three player being placed on the PUP list, the Jags can bring them back any time they choose before the regular season.
