WR Kevin White released by Cardinals, saving $1.1 million in cap space

The Arizona Cardinals made what is perhaps a surprise cut three days before their third preseason game. Rather than waiting until final cuts, the Cardinals announced the release of receiver Kevin White.

White signed a one-year, $1.5 million deal in March as a free agent. The hope was that the former top-10 pick could bounce back from the injuries he has suffered in his career. In four seasons, he appeared in only 14 games and had only 25 receptions.

He suffered hamstring in training camp and missed the first two preseason games but recently returned to practice.

Releasing him now opens a roster spot and also saves the Cardinals some money.

By releasing him now, they avoid him getting hurt again, which potentially could put them on the books for his entire salary.

The Cardinals gain $1.1 million in salary cap space with the move. They will carry $400,000 in dead money.
