WR Damiere Byrd believes Cardinals offense is perfect for him

The Arizona Cardinals have added a number of receivers to the team this offseason. However, one that few speak of is the addition the fast yet small Damiere Byrd. People notice the three drafted picks and the signing of former top-10 pick Kevin White.

Byrd, though, has a real shot at the roster. He has stood out in offseason work. He also feels like he couldn’t be in a better system.

He is 5-9, 180 pounds and incredibly fast. He ran a 4.28-second 40 coming out of college.

“I feel like this is perfect for my skillset,” Byrd said, according to Kyler Odegard for the official team site. “Spread the offense out, (which) spreads the defense out. The vertical game with the tempo. It fits every one of my strengths.”

He is not worried about the number of rookies brought in. It does complicate his situation because draft picks, especially in the early and mid rounds, are almost locks to make the roster.

“I don’t think I could even name a year when I was in the room that didn’t get a draft pick,” he said. “You kind of just know that’s what it is. They’re always going to bring new people in, but at the end of the day it’s about playing football, and it’s those snaps you get in between the lines. The draft picks and the names being called on TV doesn’t affect how you go out and play.”

Training camp opens later this month. When the pads come on, he will have to shine. The Cardinals will keep as many as seven or eight receivers on the roster.

He can also return kicks, which could help him make the team.

He is a player to watch as we approach the new season.
