WR Christian Kirk unlikely to play vs. Bengals but ‘it could have been a lot worse’

The Arizona Cardinals had some good fortune with wide receiver Christian Kirk’s ankle injury. It is not as serious as initially believed. According to head coach Kliff Kingsbury, who spoke to reporters before practice on Wednesday, Kirk “is not likely” going to be able to play on Sunday against the Cincinnati Bengals, but “after looking at that play, it could have been a lot worse.”

Kingsbury said everyone in “pleased” Kirk will not miss much time.

While this Sunday’s game on the road in Cincinnati is unlikely, Kingsbury is hopeful Kirk could return next week when the team hosts the Atlanta Falcons in Week 6.

Kingsbury would not say what type of ankle injury it was, whether it was a regular sprain or a high ankle sprain. He only would say it is an ankle injury.

Kirk leads the team with 24 receptions. He also has 242 yards.
