WR Adam Humphries wants to help Titans ‘become a really powerful team’

The Tennessee Titans weren’t the only team in the race for former Tampa Bay Buccaneers wideout Adam Humphries.

In fact, they had some pretty strong competition.

The New England Patriots tried to bring Humphries aboard, but were ultimately outbid by the Titans, who inked the slot receiver to a four-year, $36 million deal in mid-March.

Many were surprised that Humphries stuck with Tennessee given that he had the offer from New England readily on the table.

According to Humphries, who appeared on a recent episode of the RapSheet and Friends podcast, going his own way and having the opportunity to give a boost to a steadily growing team were two major factors in his decision.

“… I felt like everyone expected me to go (to the Patriots), and I kind of wanted to create my own way and help the Tennessee Titans become a really powerful team,” Humphries explained. “I was sticking to my guns, my initial decision, and I’m happy I did that.”

It was far from easy, though.

“Like I said the whole time, it was stressful, it was tough, a lot of great offers on the table. It’s hard to come down and make that final decision. Either way, it would have been awesome, and I’m just excited to play at the highest level.”

After a career season in 2018, expect Humphries and rising star Corey Davis to be two of Marcus Mariota’s favorite targets in 2019.
