Wout Weghorst waves 'goodbye' to Besiktas fans as Manchester United target striker on loan

Wout Weghorst appeared to wave goodbye to Besiktas fans after he scored for the Turkish side on Saturday with the forward in discussions over a move to Manchester United.

The 6ft 6in (1.97m) forward netted in his side's Super Lig match against Kasimpasa AS and proceeded to wave to the crowd, before seemingly mouthing 'bye-bye' in what appeared to be a final farewell.

Manchester United have been looking to bring in a centre forward on a short-term deal in the January window following the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo in their bid to find a stop-gap for the remainder of the campaign.

Weghorst, who is on loan from Burnley with Besiktas, has scored 8 goals and provided four assists in 16 league appearances for the Turkish side this season.

The Manchester Evening News has revealed that Erik ten Hag's side are advancing with a potential loan deal for the 30-year-old forward during the winter window.

It is understood that Besiktas have an option to buy Weghorst for €10million (£8.82m) at the end of the season, meaning any potential move for the Claret would need the club's approval in order to break the current agreement.

The Dutch international made 20 appearances in the top-flight with Burnley before his move away from the club, finding the back of the net on two occasions. Former United manager Louis van Gaal called Weghorst for his nation's World Cup campaign, with the target man scoring twice against Argentina during a thrilling World Cup quarter-final.
