Wout Weghorst tipped for Arsenal as Newcastle move would 'only pay off financially'

Newcastle United have been strongly linked with Wolfsburg striker Wout Weghorst, but one former manager of the German side believes money would be the only benefit for the player.

Weghorst's form this season - 20 goals in 42 games - has reportedly attracted interest from not only Newcastle but also Arsenal - and it is the latter move that Andries Jonker has tipped Weghorst to make.

Speaking to German media outlet Bild, former Arsenal coach Jonker said: "I could imagine Weghorst at Arsenal," he said. "He could help as a worker and a reliable goalscorer.

"It would go well in London. Joining Arsenal matters more than many other clubs.

"Weghorst could certainly increase his standing in the Dutch national team.

"A move to Newcastle would certainly only pay off financially."

Wolfsburg are said to have slapped a price tag of £32million on the forward ahead of what is seen as an inevitable scramble for his signature this summer.
