Would you wear a £15 mask dress?

Just when we thought we'd reached peak mask saturation, brands have gone one step further. May I introduce to you: the mask dress.

While the face mask is the most sought after accessory of 2020, is the face mask dress about to outdo us all?

Pretty Little Thing caused a stir in June after unveiling a bodycon dress in a slew of colourways with a built-in mask.

But it was when Lottie Moss, Kate's younger half-sister, was pictured wearing the black mask dress out in London last week though that the £15 frock sold out instantaneously.

The brand confirmed once it had sold out that it was re-stocking the dress in certain colours and sizes and, according to the Pretty Little Thing website, 162 have been sold in the black colourway today alone.

While Pretty Little Thing's budget mini has caused a stir, in the high fashion arena it was Marine Serre, Balenciaga and Rick Owens who made the case for masks in fashion as part of their recent spring/summer 2021 collections.

Serre crafted avant-garde all-in-one mask catsuits, while Balenciaga offered up rollneck jumpers with enough fabric to pull over your mouth. Taking it up a notch was Rick Owens, who crafted a pink chiffon maxi dress with built-in mask.
