Would you risk Wilson or start Almiron? Pick your Newcastle United XI for Chelsea clash

Newcastle United welcome Chelsea to St James' Park on Saturday knowing a win will temporarily lift them up to seventh place in the Premier League table.

The Magpies will be keen to bounce back from a disappointing 2-0 defeat to Southampton last time out but must do so against a Chelsea side who are unbeaten in their last 11 matches in all competitions.

Steve Bruce has a number of fitness issues to battle ahead of the fixture though and he is still without Martin Dubravka, Paul Dummett, Ryan Fraser and Dwight Gayle through injury.

Bruce also suggested the game may come too early for Jonjo Shelvey, who returned to fitness this week but he has welcomed Matt Ritchie back into the fold after his injury concerns.

The big selection issue will depend on the fitness of top scorer Callum Wilson, though, with the England international set to be assessed ahead of kick-off.

Wilson, who has been directly involved in 70 per cent of the Magpies' Premier League goals this season, was replaced with a hamstring injury last time out but has been back on the training pitch.

Joelinton or Andy Carroll would be the obvious replacements for the 28-year-old, while Bruce will also have to assess the fitness of his returning international stars.

Jeff Hendrick, Ciaran Clark, Fabian Schar and Emil Krafth have all returned to training but Miguel Almiron only arrived back from Paraguay at 11pm last night.

It remains to be seen whether Almiron will be fit enough to start on Saturday, while it will be interesting to see if Bruce sticks with his 5-3-2 formation that has polarised opinion recently.
