Would Redskins trade Ryan Kerrigan?

When it comes to the Washington Redskins acting as sellers ahead of Tuesday’s deadline, little in the way of speculation seems to bring up Ryan Kerrigan.

Maybe it should.

The attention goes to Trent Williams, but Kerrigan is a 31-year-old player on a contract that pays him a cap hit of $11.75 million next season before he becomes a free agent,

Of course, Kerrigan is a franchise legend and cornerstone. He’s tallied 86.5 sacks since 2011 and been nothing short of the stereotypical model citizen.

And yet, do the Redskins really want to dole out a massive extension to a player of 30-plus years of age in the next year or so? Will the two parties even be able to make something happen?

It’s at least a question worth asking, as those same traits are something contenders making a playoff push would love to have right now. Think, a team like the Baltimore Ravens.

If the Redskins do sell on Kerrigan in addition to cleaning house by trading guys like Williams and Josh Norman, it resets the nucleus for the future around Dwayne Haskins.

It’s a scary idea, but one that could become a reality over the next 24 hours or so.
