Would-be van thief threatens owner with a chain then makes off in a taxi in Uddingston

A man who was interrupted while trying to steal a van threatened the owner, damaged a van with a chain then made of in a near-by taxi.

The incident happened on Sunday March 14, at 3.12pm in the Viewpark area of Uddingston.

The van was parked in the owner's driveway when the man tried to steal it.

When the owner emerged to challenge the van, the man became aggressive, damaged the van with a chain and was threatening the owner.

The man then made off from the area in a taxi and was dropped off at a different location nearby.

Officers from Bellshill Response Policing Team are appealing for witnesses regarding an incident which occurred in the Viewpark area of Uddingston.

A Police spokesman said: "This was a terrifying incident for the victim and officers are keen to identify the suspect.

"We'd encourage anyone who witnessed this incident or who may have CCTV/DashCam footage to please contact 101 quoting incident number "2098 of 14/03/21"."
