Would-be robber shot dead in Park Manor: police

A person was fatally shot while trying to commit a robbery Thursday in Park Manor on the South Side, police said.

A male tried to rob a gas station with a shotgun about 9:50 p.m. in the 6700 block of South Cottage Grove Avenue when someone shot him in the back and face, Chicago police said.

He was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Police said the person who fired the fatal shots has not been located.

The Cook County medical examiner’s office hasn’t released details on the death.

Area One detectives are investigating.
