Would-be Newcastle United supremo drops hint of how club will operate if takeover goes through

Would-be Newcastle United supremo Amanda Staveley says that the real "owners" of the club are the supporters on Tyneside.

The Ripon financier expected to be part of the club's Middle East consoritum by now but the Premier League did not approve or reject their owners and directors test application.

Staveley is keen to resurrect the deal and along with Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund and the Reuben brothers believes Mike Ashley has the perfect buyers.

Staveley, speaking to Tyne Tees, said: "We are fully committed to making the transaction happen.

"I am fully committed to making it happen and our consortium is.

"We closed the transaction with Mike 15 months ago.

"Contracts were exchanged and SPAs were entered into.

"And we're still here today waiting patiently for the process to go forward."

And when asked what type of owners they would be Staveley added: "If we are privileged enough to own it we will be custodians.

"The owners will always be the fans.

"So it is important that they get to see what is going on in the next few months."

Staveley also dismissed any notion that the Premier League don't have answers on seperation on who would be running the club with a fear from the top-flight that it could have been State-led.

Staveley said: "All of the questions that the Premier League asked us were answered in an incredibly quick and timely manner.

"That was something that was important to everyone."
