A Conservative politician has taken a short break from the general election campaign - to get married.
Prime Minister Theresa May caught many people by surprise when she announced in April that there would be a snap general election on June 8.
And they included Guy Opperman, who at the time was Conservative MP for Hexham as well as a Government whip.
It meant that he would be spending the next two months campaigning in his Northumberland constituency, as well as supporting the Tory campaign across the wider North East region.
But he already had a very special date in the diary for June 2.
Because that’s when Mr Opperman, aged 52, was marrying Flora Coleman, his partner of four years.
The registry office wedding went ahead as planned.
But the pair had to put off their honeymoon, at least for now.
Instead, they have spent their first few days of married life together campaigning in the general election.
Luckily Flora, 32, is also interested in politics and once worked as a Government special adviser in the House of Lords.
Mr Opperman said: “Last weekend I got married to Flora. We are both very happy. We are not having a honeymoon, but are enjoying a ‘campaignmoon’ - our wedding date had been set some time ago, but the election has got in the way, so the day after the wedding we were both back on the campaign trail.
“We decided to go ahead with the wedding and will have the party, and the honeymoon in a few months time.”
