'Would be colossal' - West Ham fans go crazy over Diego Costa transfer links

According to Italian football journalist Tancredi Palmeri, West Ham are reported to be interested in signing Diego Costa until the end of the season.

The former Chelsea striker canceled his contract with Atletico Madrid by mutual consent in December and is available to sign immediately.

West Ham transfer deadline day verdict

Costa last played in early December and has been looking for a move since his contract was terminated.

West Ham fans are desperate for the club to sign a striker and the overall reaction to the news about Costa is one of excitement.

With some fans claiming the move enable the Hammers to compete for Champions League football next season.

Other Hammers fans would love the club to sign Costa but believe his wages would be too costly and that the Spaniard would not be able to replace Michail Antonio in the team.

Costa had two spells in Madrid split between a three-and-a-half season spell at Chelsea.

The Spaniard cost Atletico £57 million to bring him back from Chelsea but the striker's second spell at the club failed to live up to his first.

Poor form and injury saw Costa score only 12 league goals over three years since his return to the Spanish capital.

If Costa were to sign he would add much-needed competition/backup to Antonio who is currently West Ham's only senior striker.

David Moyes has said on numerous occasions he would lie to add a forward to his squad but admitted that he may have to look inside the club instead.

This would likely mean turning to winger Andriy Yarmolenko or youngster Mipo Oduceko should Antonio pick up a third injury of the season.
