Would-be assassins who shot dad in front of his young lad in hit feared to be linked to A Team gang feud still on the loose

Would-be assassins who shot a dad in front of his young son in a hit feared to be linked to a gangland feud are still on the loose.

The 36-year-old man was blasted in his Seat Leon on Langworthy Road, at the junction with Eccles New Road, Salford, on Tuesday afternoon. His son was sat beside him.

The man was hit with one bullet in the upper body, which missed his vital organs. The wound was serious, but not life-threatening.

He remains in hospital. The man's 11 year-old son, who was sat in the front passenger seat, suffered only minor injuries, including a perforated eardrum.

On Wednesday, police released an image of two suspects on a bike. Detectives want to to identify the pair.

Police have appealed for anyone with information to come forward.

GMP have described the shooting, which they are treating as attempted murder, as a 'targeted attack'. There is no percieved threat to the wider community, detective say.

They have said the culprits urgently 'need to be brought to justice'.

The Manchester Evening News understands police are probing the possibility the hit could be linked to a violent dispute between two Salford gangs - the 'A Team' and a rival group dubbed the 'Antis'.

The dispute erupted in 2014 and resulted in a series of shootings, a grenade attack, machete attack and a murder.

It is also understood Tuesday's attack could be linked to a shooting in Ordsall in February when a gunman blasted the wrong house in Howard Street, off Eccles New Road. Two people were inside, but no one was hurt.

Detective Chief Inspector, Amber Waywell of GMP's Major Incident Team said yesterday: "This could easily have gone another way and I could have been stood here speaking about a child being seriously injured or killed after a shooting.

"For a child to witness an incident such as this is nothing short of disgraceful. This goes beyond organised crime and anybody who would be willing to open fire in front of a child needs to be found and brought to justice.

"We have a dedicated Major Incident Team working on the investigation and we have a number of lines of enquiry that we are following, however I want to urge any member of the public who may have information to please contact us.

"Given where the incident happened, we believe there could have been a number of witnesses and we are particularly keen to speak with anyone who may have dashcam footage which shows the circumstances leading up to the shooting or the immediate aftermath.

"We cannot allow a minority of individuals to perpetrate this kind of crime and we need the communities help to bring a stop to incidents such as this.

"Any intelligence passed onto police will be treated in the strictest confidence."

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101 Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
