Would a Nate Solder trade make sense for Giants, Browns?

The NFL trade deadline is rapidly approaching and at 2-5, the New York Giants appear to be a team primed to sell, sell, sell. Meanwhile, the Cleveland Browns, with whom the Giants have hammered out several deals, look to be in buying mode with major needs across their offensive line.

Ironically, the very same Giants team that weakened Cleveland’s offensive line — acquiring Kevin Zeitler this offseason — currently find themselves in a position to help bolsters the Browns’ offensive line.

Left tackle Nate Solder has underperformed since signing a four-year, $62 million free-agent contract with the Giants last offseason, and he seems like an ideal candidate to ship off if someone is willing to take on that contract.

Luckily for the Giants, the Browns very well may do that.

While we can not confirm what La Canfora is hearing, it does raise the possibility of an interesting scenario that may serve to benefit both teams.

Again, a trade of Solder to the Browns would allow the Giants to shed his massive contract and begin searching for a higher-quality replacement, while Cleveland would land an immediate upgrade and stop-gap at left tackle, which is something they desperately need at the moment — even if Solder isn’t at the top of his game.

If the Giants and Browns would work out compensation, this is a no-brainer for both teams.
