'Worth a punt' Newcastle United fans unified over Jack Wilshere transfer suggestion

Newcastle United's European business came to an end on Monday after the 11pm transfer deadline.

The Magpies have recruited in England this summer, with Callum Wilson, Ryan Fraser and Jamal Lewis all arriving at St James' Park.

Steve Bruce still has until October 16 to add any EFL talent to their squad although it appears the club are finished on the recruitment front.

Indeed, Bruce warned fans to expect a quiet deadline day, with only a 'mouth-watering' loan option likely to tempt Newcastle back into the market.

However, the free-agent market is also still open and one name that has caught the attention of Newcastle fans is Jack Wilshere.

The talented Englishman has struggled with injuries throughout his entire career and parted company with West Ham on Monday to seek first-team football.

Whilst further problems in the treatment room restricted Wilshere to just 19 appearances in over two years, the ex-Arsenal man believes he can still play at the top level.

"I'm still only 28 and feel fit, strong and ready to play," tweeted Wilshere after leaving West Ham.

"I am still incredibly hungry, ambitious and desperate to play football and achieve success."

With that in mind, Newcastle fans have been discussing the possibility of offering Wilshere a pay-as-you-play deal, similar to that offered to Andy Carroll which saw him return to the club.

Here's what they had to say.

Watford have also confirmed that Danny Welbeck has left Vicarage Road on a free transfer, which could interest Premier League clubs as a potential options.
