'Worst signing we ever made!' - Arsenal fans react as Petr Cech completes Chelsea return

Petr Cech has officially left the building.

The experienced goalkeeper announced at the beginning of the year that he was to retire from professional football at the end of the 2018/2019 season and his farewell Arsenal appearance came in the Europa League final defeat by Chelsea last month.

Ironically, Cech is heading back to his former club and rumours of him undertaking a backroom staff role at Stamford Bridge has come true.

It was confirmed on Friday morning that he's been appointed as Technical and Performance Advisor following a four-year spell at the Emirates Stadium.

Speaking to the Chelsea club website about his role, Cech said: "I feel very privileged to have this opportunity to join Chelsea FC again and help create the best possible high level performance environment to continue the success the club has had over the past 15 years .

"I’m looking forward to the new challenge and hope I can use all of my football knowledge and experience to help the team achieve even more success in the future."

Interestingly, Cech's contract at Arsenal doesn't officially expire until June 30 and considering his comments following the Europa League final, an announcement coming nine days earlier may have taken some by surprise.

"I’ve kept saying to everybody, I want to lift this trophy and then sit down and think. Until the 30th June, I’m still an Arsenal player. People forget that. Until that point, I won’t decide anything.”

In any case, Cech's return to west London has been confirmed and that's prompted chatter from supporters on social media.
