Worst places for Japanese knotweed across Nottingham

Areas near to Lenton and Langley Mill have been revealed to be the worst in the county for Japanese knotweed, according to a survey.

The figures, gathered by Horticulture Magazine, show a pin-point accurate picture of how many of the much-loathed plants are across Nottingham and Nottinghamshire.

Hundreds of cases are littered across the city and the wider county.

However, when focusing on specific areas, an industrial estate between Lenton and Dunkirk proves to be one of the worst affected areas.

Eighteen active cases have been confirmed in and around the site.

A similar picture can be painted around Langley Mill, where around 20 cases of Japanese Knotweed are present.

Almost 15 cases are also prevalent within a relatively short radius of Bulwell.

Japanese knotweed was originally imported into Britain from Japan back in the 19th century, when engineers thought it would stabilise and beautify railway embankments.

However, since then the plant has spread like wildfire, with more than 29,500 confirmed cases in the UK, a figure that continues to grow year on year.
