Worst hay fever day of the year revealed and it's almost here again

Hay fever sufferers across the UK have been exposed to "very high" pollen counts this week, thanks to "super pollen" as well as the end of a tropical storm.

Pollen counts were "very high" across England on Tuesday and Wednesday, and are to remain at those high levels today (Thursday), and on Friday.

One in five people in the UK suffer from hay fever. Research shows pollen seasons are getting longer and more pollen-filled due to climate change, leading to allergy-sufferers dreading the beginning of hay fever season.

Chemist4U has analysed geo-located tweets to find the "worst day" for hay fever in the past 12 months. Its research found June 17, 2021, saw the highest number of tweets shared about hay fever.

In fact, 1.34% of all UK tweets on that particular day were about hay fever. With June 17 (Friday)'s pollen forecast as it is, it could well be the same again this year.

Hay fever sufferers may take some small relief in knowing that from Saturday and on Sunday, the pollen levels are set to fall to "medium" in Liverpool, and across most of England.
