Worshippers racially abused by man 'making gun signs' at mosque

A racist thug attacked a man with a bike lock in after making "gun signs" at worshippers at a Liverpool mosque.

The sickening scenes unfolded as worshippers were leaving Al-Rahma Mosque in Toxteth.

Officers were called to the mosque in Mulgrave Street after reports a 41-year-old man had been assaulted with a bike lock.

Merseyside Police said the victim was subjected to the racially aggravated assault after bravely challenging the culprit who "was shouting racial abuse and making gun actions at worshippers as they were leaving the mosque" just before 1pm on Friday, December 11 last year.

Today police named a man they have charged in connection with the incident.

The 45-year-old was charged on Wednesday.

Paul Anderson, of Duke Street, Liverpool City Centre is charged with assault and a racially aggravated public order offence.

He has been remanded in custody to appear in court today, Thursday, January 21.
