Next spring's level of pollen dispersal -- including cedar, cypress and white birch in Hokkaido -- is expected to almost double from this year, or about 80 percent of the national average seen from 2011 to 2020, Weathernews Inc. said Wednesday.
The amount of pollen tends to alternate between higher and lower levels annually, according to the company. Though the growth condition of male flowers, the source of pollen, is worse than ordinary years because of the lack of sunlight this past July, the company expects the quantity of pollen will increase because next year is a year of more pollen.
"Symptoms may be worse than last year, and we urge people to take measures as early as possible," said an official of the company.
