Comedian and podcast host Theo Von alarmed his audience after making distressing remarks about self-harm during a Netflix special taping, leading to concern from fans and journalists alike.
The incident occurred on September 27, 2025, during the taping of Von’s upcoming Netflix special at New York’s Beacon Theatre. According to multiple reports and clips circulating on social media, Von told the crowd, during the performance: “I’m having a long month. I’m trying not to take my own life.” Immediately afterward, he apparently left the stage, then returned and restarted his set.
Von allegedly also said he’s “battling suicidal thoughts”
One Reddit user recalled Von telling an audience member he was “battling suicidal thoughts,” adding that life felt harsh and cruel. The moment went viral on social media, with many users expressing shock and concern over the seriousness of the statement. These are unverified quotes from attendees, not a confirmed transcript from Von or his team. Likewise, there is no confirmation that Von’s alleged comments were an attempt at dark humor because of the bad audience reaction and the poor quality of his set.
Several attendees and online commenters described the show as chaotic, noting Von repeated bits, forgot punchlines mid-set, and seemed disorganized. Some audience members claimed a large portion of the crowd walked out mid-show.
One comment included, in part, “I pray he’s not being serious but it seems so. He needs a break and help.” Another added, “When you joke about stuff like that there’s usually real feelings behind it. Hope things get better for him, [he’s] a good hearted caring guy who tries to help people.”
We love you Theo. Cancel shows, recordings, whatever you gotta do to get right & step away for a minute if you need to, man. You are meant to be here

As of now, Von has not publicly confirmed or contextualized the line in question on social media or via an official statement. There is also no public comment from his team, representatives, or Netflix addressing the alleged comment or broader mental health concerns at the taping.
Von has historically incorporated confessional, vulnerable, or abrasive topics into his comedy and podcasts, often discussing struggles with loneliness, addiction, career pressures, and internal doubts. Given there is no verified confirmation from Von or his team, the full context and intent behind the remark remain unclear.
