Worried mum calls police after man takes photo of her child on street

A man was asked by police to delete a photograph of a young child from his phone that he took on a street.

The incident happened on Lord Street in Southport on Monday 22 just before 3.30pm, when a mum accused the man of taking pictures of her two-year-old daughter who was playing by a fountain.

The woman informed the police after she challenged the man who she claims on a Facebook post openly admitted to taking the photos.

In the story first posted on Lancs Live, police found the man who told them he had just been taking photos of the fountain and deleted the photos of the young child on their request.

In a statement, Merseyside Police said: “It was established he had been taking images of the fountain and took a photo when the girl ran into the shot.

“The man had deleted the image following a request from the child’s mother – which was checked by officers - and he was given advice about conduct and perceptions by officers.”

Posting on Facebook, a friend of the child’s mother warned other parents to be vigilant.

Her account differed from the version of events reported by police, with the friend claiming that the man was deliberately taking photographs of the young girl.

However, the police statement does not back up this version of events.
