Worried Ally McCoist sounds Rangers Euro alarm as he sends Celtic a firm warning

Concerned Ally McCoist admits he is worried about Rangers in Armenia amid their Covid crisis that sees them without Steven Gerrard and a host of key players.

The Ibrox icon concedes he is less concerned about the manager being among their Alashkert absentee list that includes Allan McGregor, Ryan Kent, James Tavernier and Scott Wright.

Calvin Bassey and Jon McLaughlin are also missing as Gary McAllister takes the reins in Yerevan and aims to secure safe passage to the Europa League group stage after a 1-0 first leg win.

The 59-year-old expects a night fraught with danger but is backing the club he loves to have enough to avoid dropping into the Europa Conference League.

He said: "I'm worried, I am worried."

"Well that's the problem (missing players).

"With the greatest respect to Steven, I am concerned he is not there, if Steven was playing for us I would be even more concerned.

"I think Gary McAllister is more than capable to handle the team situation but the two goalkeepers are out, Kent's out, Tavernier's out - so there's a few boys who have been starting who are out.

"We also have a few suspensions - Lundstram and Roofe - it's seriously weakened the squad.

"Having said that, I was at the first leg and we weren't anything like we can play, Lundstram got sent off and down to 10 men and we won 1-0.

"I'm not tempting fate but I didn't think they were fantastic, I would be hopeful we can still get the job done.

And McCoist doesn't expect Ange Postecoglou's side to have it their own way in the Netherlands as they face AZ Alkmaar after a 2-0 first leg win.

The Dutch side showed flashes of their ability in Glasgow and passed up two golden chances in each half of the pulsating encounter.

McCoist added: "Celtic have got an interesting one over in Holland after a great result at home.

"AZ Alkmaar showed enough to suggest that tie is not over yet either.

"It's a couple of big games tonight."
