Worle nursery owners thank community for 'amazing' support after lightning strike

The owners of a children’s nursery which has had its roof destroyed in a freak lightning strike have said the response from the local community has been amazing.

The bosses of Ready Steady Go Nursery in Worle said they are still assessing how much damage has been caused by the thunderbolt - which hit the building on Friday evening.

It was part of a in parts of Worle High Street nearby, and around North Somerset.

Within 24 hours of the lightning strike, the community in Worle, near Weston-super-Mare, has rallied round the nursery.

A fundraising day is being planned at the Golden Lion pub in the village, and businesses across Worle and Weston are donating prizes for a raffle.

A fundraising page set up by Aaron Cummings, has already seen almost £1,000 in donations.

One of the nursery’s owners, Tara Maher, has thanked everyone for their generosity.

“Thank you to everyone for your amazing support,” she said.

“We really appreciate everyone’s help and kindness. I’m going in there today to see how much actual damage has been caused,” she added.

when they were struck by debris falling from the roof as the lightning hit - one was taken to hospital and the other treated at the scene.

Three fire appliances attended the nursery, and a turntable ladder.
