Worlds of art and music to collide in exhibition at Bristol Beacon

The worlds of art and music will collide at Bristol Beacon early in 2021 as part of a new exhibition showcasing artwork from some of the UK's most innovative musicians.

Lovers of art and music will be able to discover the unknown artistic talents of renowned music artists in Super Cool Drawing Machine, with tickets now on sale.

The exhibition, which will be held inside Bristol Beacon’s foyer between January 14 and January 17 2021, is curated by Somerset-based independent live booking agency Yuppies Music, and has been developed as a response to the Covid-19 pandemic.

It is a celebration of the visual art created by a host of international acclaimed musicians throughout 2020 and is set to bring engaging and exciting artistic creations - as well as a "much-needed dose of fun" - back into the UK’s treasured music spaces.

Featuring renowned musicians from a wide spectrum of genres, the Super Cool Drawing Machine tour features the artwork of artists usually known for their musical talents.

Musicians set to showcase their artwork include trailblazing saxophonist and figurehead of the UK jazz scene Shabaka Hutchings, Mercury-nominated Welsh singer Cate Le Bon, experimental folk musician Richard Dawson, Turner Exhibiting African-American experimentalist Lonnie Holley and celebrated drummer Seb Rochford, as well as members of This is the Kit, Mammal Hands, Haiku Salut, Snapped Ankles and many more.

Musicians from Bristol’s music scene have also contributed to the exhibition including Francois and the Atlas Mountains, Folk musician Rachael Dadd and Japanese artist ICHI, who has made artworks out of objects he found and collected along the river Avon.

Super Cool Drawing Machine aims to "reconnect music lovers with their culture, and supporting artists’ creativity" as the future of live touring remains uncertain.

Todd Wills, artistic director at Bristol Beacon said: "It feels amazing to be able to hold events again in our foyer, after such a long time.

"This tour represents the incredible art that can come out of uncertain times and we’re glad to be able to showcase the amazing creative work of musicians, bringing it to our audiences while we work on how to bring live music back safely."

The event will be fully Covid-compliant with timed entries for visitors, temperature checks on arrival, a track-and-trace system, designated route through the exhibition and cleaning between viewings.

Bristol is the penultimate stop on the Super Cool Drawing Machine tour after it has travelled to York, Birkenhead, Margate, Norwich and London.
