World War 2 bomb found in North Belfast sparks police alert

A suspected World War II bomb found in an attic has sparked a security alert in North Belfast.

Police and ATO are at the scene on the Oldpark Road on Monday afternoon.

Sinn Fein Councillor Ryan Murphy told Belfast Live that the police informed him a 'World War II incendiary bomb' had been found in an attic.

He said: "We got a phone call from the police to say that they were called to the Oldpark Road.

"They're calling it a World War II incendiary bomb.

"It seems to have been there for a long time. Obviously it could be a bit unstable so ATO are currently working on it.

"They don't think it'll take too long and they're trying to limit disruption as much as possible."

The PSNI said: "Police received a report of a suspicious object in the Oldpark Road area of Belfast, this morning (Monday, 30th September).

"ATO have taken the object away for further examination."
