World volleyball tournament coming to Bettystown Beach this summer

An international world volleyball tournament is taking place this summer on Bettystown Beach.

Thanks to the successful hosting of Pool C of the CEV Continental Cup last year, Ireland will now be hosting a World Tour from 17th-19th July. Cities like Moscow and Rome are also listed on the 2020 tour.

The tournament is males only, featuring some top players across the world, including the Irish pairing Oisin McArdle and Alex Gibbons, who won the bronze medal in the CEV Continental Cup last year.

The qualification draw will take place on the 17th July, with the main event taking place on Saturday 18th.

Development activities are being planned around the event, including a beach volleyball camp for junior players.

Meath councillor Sharon Tolan told the Meath Chronicle “I am delighted that Bettystown Beach will host its second International Beach Volleyball Tournament.

"Events like this really bring alive the area and we hope that all of our local residents, businesses and visitors can get involved in a wonderful weekend showing off a beautiful stretch of our coastline".
