Elite sport is about to take centre stage in the heart of Leeds with the return of the AJ Bell World Triathlon Series this weekend (June 8-9).
The likes of our very own Jonathan and Alistair Brownlee have soaked up the roars of the Leeds crowd as they swam, cycled and pounded the pavements of the city to victory in previous years.
But it's not just about the stars of the sport. Thousands of spectators will play their part in making this one of the biggest weekends in Leeds' sporting calendar - and it isn't too late for you to get involved.
On Sunday the elite athletes will make their way through the suburbs of the city - a sporting spectacle on your own doorstep. After the swim at Roundhay Park, and gruelling cycle, it's into the city centre with a number of perfect vantage points to cheer the athletes home - all free of charge and the perfect day out!
Best places to watch the action on Sunday (elite race starts at 3.51pm)
The race start at Roundhay Park
This is a highlight of the event and sees the athletes plunge into the depths of Waterloo Lake at Roundhay Park for a 1.5km swim to begin. The start area is near to the north west of the lake near to the cafe.
Leeds city centre
Line the streets for a front-seat view of the competitors as they cycle and run through the streets of Leeds city centre. The Headrow and East Parade are the perfect vantage points - or head to Calverley Street to see them approach the last leg of the race. Here the finish line is just around the corner as the athletes make their final push for victory!
The suburbs
For some, you won't need to travel far to get a glimpse of the action. After surviving the cold of Waterloo Lake, the athletes saddle up and ride through Moortown, Headingley, and Burley. The key roads on the route are Stonegate Road, Otley Road and North Lane, as well as Cardigan Road and Burley Road before they reach the city centre.
The Grandstand, Millennium Square
Located in Leeds’ iconic Millennium Square, the Grandstand will provide you with unrivalled views of the world’s best triathletes, as well as the second transition and the all-important blue carpet finish line.
A big screen is located opposite the Grandstand, showing live coverage to keep you up to speed with the race as the action unfolds. You can buy tickets online or on the day at the Leeds Box Office in Millennium Square.
