The battle between India and New Zealand to be crowned inaugural World Test champions will go into a sixth day following an absorbing fifth day that left India leading by 32 runs.
New Zealand resumed on 101-2 and were 249 all out, with captain Kane Williamson falling just short of a half century.
India then reached 64-2 at stumps in their second innings after losing Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma, both trapped lbw by Tim Southee.
The match will go into a sixth day because of time lost to bad weather.
Although the forecast is good for Wednesday, with a maximum of 98 overs remaining, it is possible that New Zealand and India will be crowned joint champions.
