The world’s most expensive bottle of wine has been named - and it will set you back a cool €15,195.

A 1985 bottle of Richebourg Grand Cru from Burgundy topped an annual list of the 50 most expensive wines based on data from nearly 55,000 price lists and comes in at a cool €15,195 (£9,806), according to website WineSearcher.

The wine is created Henri Jayer, who is widely credited as one of the most important winemakers in Burgundy of his time, drawing particular acclaim in the 1970s and 1980s. He died in 2006 at the age of 84.

The price of this particular bottle may seem eye watering, but none so much as the most expensive bottle of whisky, which WineSearcher revealed at the same time.

The whisky in question is The Balvenie 50 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky, Speyside, priced at $34,942 (£22,551).

But price clearly isn’t everything, as just this year a £10 Chardonnay sold at Marks & Spencer was named the best in the world.
