‘World’s most expensive gin’ goes on sale at Harvey Nichols for £4,000

A bottle of gin believed to be the most expensive in the world is going on sale at Harvey Nichols.

The Knightsbridge store is tomorrow launching Morus LXIV, which costs £4,000 for a set comprising a 70cl jar and a 3cl one.

The 3cl jar on it own is £200. There are only 25 large bottles of the gin, which takes two years to create and is 64 per cent ABV.

It is distilled from the leaves of a single “ancient” Mulberry tree — or Morus Nigra — with each leaf hand-harvested and individually dried. It is made by London-based Jam Jar Gin, owned by husband-and-wife team Dan and Faye Thwaites, and sold in hand-made porcelain jars.

Previously, the most expensive gin was thought to be the Cambridge Distillery’s Watenshi, which is made in batches of six and costs £2,000 a bottle.
